Leadership crisis hits Lagos Arewa community, as members call for sack of commissioner

Some members of the Arewa community in Lagos State have called for the removal of the state Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, Kabiru Ahmed Abdullahi.
The call followed the current crisis rocking the leadership of the community in the state.
Abdullahi is the only Hausa in the state Executive Council.
Those calling for his sack accused him of intolerance, selfishness, greediness, arrogance and failure to promote and protect the interest of his kinsmen.
The agitation for the sack of Abdullahi became public during the week, with two different protests staged at the state House of Assembly.
While one protest group called for his sack, the other pledged their support for the commissioner.
The protest to the House of Assembly by the anti-Abdullahi group was as a result of the resolution by lawmakers, asking the House to pass a vote of no confidence on the commissioner and withdraw his confirmation after he failed to honour their invitations on many occasions.
The lawmakers, who demanded action against the embattled commissioner are members of the committee probing activities of his ministry.
His enemies lamented his failure to carry the group along despite ‘parading’ himself as the chairman of Arewa Community in All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State chapter for 15 years.
They urged the House to remove him and replace him with another “person who can harmonise Arewa and carry everyone along.”
However, the faction loyal to the commissioner, accused the people calling his sack of being members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and traitors.
Secretary of Arewa community, Kudu Abubakar in an interview, said the crisis rocking the association was caused by the commissioner due to his leadership failure. He alleged that the attitude of the commissioner towards the members of the community, was what caused the agitation for his sack.
Abubakar said none of the people calling for the commissioner’s sack belongs to PDP but are members of APC.
Attempt by WesternPost to get the commissioner’s reaction proved abortive as he did not pick his calls.
