League Two side Grimsby Town kicks Manchester Utd out of Carabao Cup

Manchester United’s miserable start to the season continued on Wednesday at the Blundell Park, after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town.
The Red Devils were shown the exit door by the League Two side, who secured a famous win via penalty shootout.
The second-round tie had ended 2-2 at regulation time, with Manchester United having to come from two goals down to level up.
However, that was how far luck could carry Ruben Amorim’s side, as they eventually succumbed to the greenhorns, losing the ensuing shootout by 12-11.
It had appeared United had rescued themselves in the nick of time after finding themselves two goals down in a truly awful first-half display, with returning goalkeeper Andre Onana at fault for Grimsby’s second.
Substitute Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back before Harry Maguire equalised in the final minute.
But Matheus Cunha failed to secure victory in United’s last spot-kick of the regulation five, and Mbeumo’s second penalty hit the bar to hand Grimsby a 12-11 shootout success and trigger a pitch invasion from the jubilant home fans.
It was a glorious night for Grimsby Town as their fans trooped to the pitch after the win, celebrating an unimaginable victory.
