Legal profession remains guardian of constitutional order, says Aiyedatiwa

As governor commissions NBA Bar Centre in Ondo
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has described the legal profession as a vital pillar of democracy and constitutional order, stressing the need for strong institutions to preserve justice, societal values and national development.
Aiyedatiwa stated this on Friday during the commissioning of a Bar Centre donated to the Ondo Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Ondo City by prominent legal practitioner, Tayo Oyetibo.
The governor said enduring societies are built not only on resources but on institutions capable of transmitting knowledge, preserving values and sustaining civilisation across generations.
Describing the Bar Centre as more than a physical structure, Aiyedatiwa said the project symbolises intellectual discipline, professional excellence, institutional continuity and the enduring nobility of the legal profession.
“By personally building and donating this Bar Centre to the NBA Ondo Branch, he has not merely erected a structure; he has established a lasting monument to scholarship, professional solidarity and the advancement of justice,” the governor said while commending Oyetibo’s contribution to the legal profession.
He added that the legal profession occupies a sacred position in every democratic society, warning that democracy would gradually lose its moral foundation without an independent and courageous legal profession.
In his remarks, Oyetibo said the project was aimed at strengthening the legal profession and deepening the administration of justice, adding that lawyers remain custodians of justice and defenders of the rule of law.
Also speaking, Wole Olanipekun commended Oyetibo’s commitment to the legal profession, while Moronkeji Ogunwumiju donated Nigerian Weekly Law Reports from 2005 to 2026 to the library at the centre.
