Lekan Alabi marks 75th birthday with book launch, chieftaincy promotion celebration

Veteran journalist and Ibadan chief, Oloye Lekan Alabi, on Wednesday launched his new book titled Media, Governance and Culture, in commemoration of his 75th birthday and his recent promotion from Maye Olubadan to Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The event, held at the RATTAWU Multipurpose Hall, BCOS Ile Akede, Bashorun, Ibadan, attracted dignitaries from the media, traditional institutions, and government.
In attendance were Dr. Sulaiman Olanrewaju, Special Media Adviser and Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor; Eze James Nduka, Eze Ndigbo of Ibadan and Yorubaland; Dr. James Oramadike, BCOS Chairman; and Chief Taofeek Gboyega Adegoke, Ibadan chief and Chairman of Solution FM, among others.
In his remarks, Oloye Alabi expressed gratitude to God and to the guests for their support, noting that the idea of the book was inspired by Rasaq Akinyemi and printed in the United States. He emphasized the importance of keeping historical records and dedicated the book to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, explaining that the launch date was chosen after the monarch gave his blessings.

The book was reviewed by Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos, who described Alabi as an asset to the media industry. He noted that the book would serve as a valuable resource for students, academics, and practitioners.
Delivering a goodwill message, Mr. Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Adviser on Media and Special Duties to President Bola Tinubu, praised Alabi’s excellence, describing him as “a media guru” who has had the singular honour of serving four governors as a media spokesperson. Rahman lauded his work ethic and pledged to support the publication with a donation.
Also speaking, Dr. Sulaiman Olanrewaju, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, congratulated Alabi and urged Nigerians to “live lives worth writing about.” He praised the veteran journalist for his professionalism and impact.
In his remarks, Chief Taofeek Gboyega Adegoke described Alabi as “a bundle of experience,” encouraging young media practitioners to learn from his wealth of knowledge and contributions. He also launched the book with a donation of ₦10 million.
