Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has received the African Box Office Excellence Award at the ongoing third edition of the Lagos International Film and Cinema Convention (LIFACC) in recognition of her outstanding achievements in theatrical filmmaking and her contribution to the growth of African cinema.
The two-day event, holding from July 15 to July 16, 2026, has brought together cinema stakeholders, producers, distributors, cinema equipment manufacturers and suppliers, as well as solution providers from around the world to showcase products, explore business opportunities and promote industry collaboration in Ikeja, Lagos.
In a congratulatory post on Wednesday, the Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Dr. Shaibu Husseini, said he presented the award to Akindele, who was represented by the President of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson, and FilmOne’s Head of Distribution, Victoria Ogar.
Reacting to the honour, Akindele thanked Husseini for the recognition and reposted the announcement on her Instagram Story.
Speaking during a previous edition of the convention, LIFACC Chairman, Theophilus Akatugba, said the event was designed to expand industry networks, showcase brands and create opportunities in cinema exhibition and film production.
“Here, film production studios, producers, directors, distribution executives, cinema owners and other stakeholders in the film industry gather to socialise, network and conduct business.
They also explore new machinery, supplies and services that can help position their cinemas as preferred destinations,” he said.
