Super Eagles of Nigeria’s captain, Williams Troost Ekong is cocksure his compatriot Ademola Lookman will emerge Africa’s best player for 2024.

Ademola Lookman will on Monday night in Morocco, contend with four other nominees to decode who wears the crown as the continent’s best player.

The Atalanta of Italy forward will hope to succeed Victor Osimhen who won the prestigious prize last year.

According to Ekong, the 27-year-old Lookman stands tall among other contenders for the crown, going by his form for club and country.

“He’s on fire now, and a lot of promise is coming through. This season he’s been something else, and at AFCON he was amazing,” the Eagles central back told ‘talksport’

“I would say he’s arguably our best player and arguably the best player in Africa right now.

“On December 16 there will be the [African Player of the Year] ceremony, and I’m sure he’s going to win it,”

The Super Eagles captain said the exploits of the Atalanta star have already attracted the top clubs across Europe.

“Everybody saw the hat-trick in the Europa League final, and then there were a lot of rumours about big clubs, which I know to be true, but Atalanta weren’t ready for him to go,” he said.

“If I were any top club right now, I’d want him; he’s a top professional and a great lad, so I’m a very big fan.”
