LP blasts Tinubu’s New Year speech as dishonest, disrespectful

The Labour Party (LP) has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s New Year speech as a dishonest and disrespectful message to Nigerians.
Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary of the LP, said in a statement on Monday that the party and “most right thinking Nigerians” were disgusted by the emptiness of the New Year Speech by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Nigerians.
“The speech showed Nigerians the high level of hypocrisy, deceit and lack of empathy that has become the hallmark of the All Progressives Congress administration that Tinubu leads,” the statement said.
“It is sad that the President and his aides did not think it was necessary to offer a word of consolation to the families of over 200 people killed by terrorists during the Christmas Eve carnage in Plateau State. What a disgrace.
“The speech revealed the President’s inability to tackle the urgent issues of insecurity, crumbling infrastructure, collapsed manufacturing and productive sectors, inflation and the Naira to Dollar exchange rate that is going out of hand.
“The speech did not mention the alleged massive plundering of the country’s resources by appointees and party leaders in various sectors.”
The LP also criticized the president for claiming that every decision he made since he took office on May 29, 2023 was in the best interest of the country.
“How can his ill advised decision on fuel subsidy removal without a plan to ease the hardship of Nigerians be seen as an action in the national interest?,” Ifoh queried.
“What good did the millions of the country’s shrinking foreign reserves squandered on the pretext of attending the climate change summit in Dubai do for Nigerians?
“How can we start to fix the damage done to our democratic institutions such as the Judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC among others by the APC Administration?
“While we pray for our nation in this crucial time of our history, we will continue to urge the National Assembly to rise above party lines and ensure that the spirit and the letter of our constitution is respected at all times.”
