The Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has enjoined Lagosians to ensure they imbibe the virtues of maintaining a clean environment beyond the festivities season.

Stating this on Monday in a press release by the agency, Gbadegesin congratulated the Muslim faithfuls on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, and the eventual celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Fitri.

He affirmed that personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness, formed integral teachings of Islam, and should be considered lifelong features of individuals beyond the Ramadan period.

“Islam teaches cleanliness at the personal level, at home and the environment. Islam abhors filth and dirtiness anywhere around us. I appeal that we make this great teaching a permanent feature of our daily lives and living.

“Whatever we put into the environment is what it will give back. Therefore, let us maintain good hygiene at the domestic front as well as the larger environment, all for our own good,” he stated.

Wishing faithfuls a joyous celebration, he encouraged them to avoid careless waste disposal in street corners, road medians, sidewalks, and unauthorized areas, cautioning that LAWMA enforcement officers were ready to apprehend violators for swift prosecution.

The LAWMA Boss guaranteed that PSP operators would maintain peak performance, with the agency offering additional support in necessary areas. He advised motorists to drive cautiously, prioritizing the safety of sanitation workers on busy roads during the celebrations.

Additionally, he urged residents to reach out to LAWMA customer service to report any service deficiencies promptly.
