Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has pledged support for the Nigeria Police in ensuring peaceful coexistence between communities along the Oyo–Osun boundary amid ongoing disputes.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, AIG Fred Ikokotu, in Ibadan, the governor assured that a peaceful resolution to the boundary crisis would be pursued.
Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the security of lives and property, stressing the need for continuous collaboration with security agencies to maintain stability across border communities.
“The issue of boundary disputes is sensitive, but we are determined to resolve it peacefully. We’ll continue to work with the Police to ensure our people live together in peace,” he said.
He announced plans to donate two Mitsubishi trucks and a KIA Rio car, all equipped with communication gadgets, to support the operational capacity of Police Zone 11.
Welcoming the new AIG, Makinde acknowledged the challenges faced by security agencies, noting that expectations often exceed the resources available. “Despite the difficulties, we’re here to give our support,” he added.
The governor also praised the police leadership for its ongoing efforts in keeping the peace and assured continued cooperation from the state government.
AIG Ikokotu thanked the governor for his support and pledged to intensify efforts to address security concerns in the zone.
