Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has commended public and civil servants in the state for their dedication and support, urging them to sustain a culture of excellence in service delivery.

Makinde spoke on Friday at the 2025 Public Service Week and the 2024 Merit Award Ceremony for Public and Civil Servants, held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.

He said his administration has benefited from the commitment of career officers, noting that effective governance depends on cooperation between elected officials and civil servants, regardless of political differences.

The governor congratulated award recipients for their meritorious service and encouraged other workers to remain diligent, assuring them that hard work would be recognised in due course.

Makinde said the support of the workforce has enabled his administration to prioritise workers’ welfare, including regular payment of salaries, a 13th-month bonus, and improved working conditions.

He added that the collaboration between government and civil servants has made it possible to rebuild roads, renovate government buildings, and improve infrastructure across the state after years of neglect.

On security, the governor said the state has resolved to formally integrate community-based non-state actors into its security architecture and called on civil servants and residents to support the initiative with timely information.

Makinde was later honoured by the state Civil and Public Service for his worker-friendly policies since assuming office in 2019. The Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, described the governor as a labour-friendly leader and highlighted achievements under the administration, including recruitment of workers, implementation of the N80,000 minimum wage, and training programmes for officers.
