Makinde commissions dualised Akobo-Ojurin-Olorunda Abaa Road

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday commissioned the newly dualised 5.9-kilometre Akobo–Ojurin–Olorunda Abaa Road, describing it as a key infrastructure that will enhance trade, mobility, and living standards. Represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, the governor said the road connects several communities in Lagelu Local Government Area.
Makinde noted that the road’s upgrade fulfills a campaign promise he made in 2023 to residents of Ward 3 in Lagelu LGA. The project includes solar-powered streetlights, proper drainage, and tarred access roads, transforming what was once a neglected stretch into a modern dual carriageway.
The governor announced the road has been named after Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, in honour of his contributions to the state. He added that the project forms part of a wider infrastructure plan, including the ongoing dualisation of the Idi-Ape–Basorun–Akobo–Olorunda Abaa–Eniosa Junction corridor.
Highlighting other projects, Makinde listed the 76.7km Ogbomoso–Fapote–Iseyin Road, 34.85km Oyo–Iseyin Road, 12.5km Challenge–Odo Ona–Elewe–Apata Road, and the completed Moniya–Iseyin Road. He said these efforts aim to boost agriculture, reduce traffic congestion, and stimulate economic development.
The governor also praised the Lagelu Local Government for successfully handling the project, citing it as proof of the benefits of local government autonomy. Council Chairman Kamorudeen Mudashiru thanked the governor for his support and called the project a landmark achievement for the area.
Engr. Okoro Hyginus of Samchase Nigeria Limited, the project contractor, said the road was built to withstand heavy use while improving access to neighbouring communities and boosting local commerce.
Community leaders, including Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye, Hon. Akintunde Olajide, and PDP Women Leader Chief Wulemotu Ibitoye, lauded Makinde’s commitment to development and urged residents to continue supporting his administration.
Traditional rulers such as the Ololorunda of Olorunda Abaa, Oba Samuel Folarin, and Dr. Yemi Soladoye of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, also expressed gratitude. The event was attended by former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, representatives of the House of Assembly, commissioners, and other dignitaries.
