Makinde seeks legacy of institutional reforms over projects

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has said he wants to be remembered for creating frameworks that promote good governance, stressing that his legacy should be defined by lasting institutions rather than physical infrastructure.

Makinde stated this on Monday at a two-day mid-term leadership retreat held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan.

Reflecting on his Omituntun 2.0 agenda, the governor highlighted various initiatives introduced by his administration to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in governance.

He acknowledged that while infrastructure projects like roads and schools are important, the true measure of success lies in building systems that ensure effective and sustainable governance.

“I want to be remembered for the institutions that will endure beyond my tenure, ensuring that governance continues to serve the people effectively,” he said.

Makinde emphasized the need to build a robust framework that supports continuous improvement and inclusivity, noting that it is not about bricks and mortar, but about empowering future leaders and citizens.
