Makinde to announce political future as loyalists adopt APM for 2027 elections

Supporters of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde are set to formally adopt the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as their political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid indications that the governor may seek a higher office.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, Samuel Adejumobi, confirmed on Tuesday to The Nations newspaper that a grand rally of Makinde’s loyalists will hold tomorrow at Mapo Hall in Ibadan to unveil the platform for contests into the Senate, House of Representatives, House of Assembly and the governorship seat.

Adejumobi, popularly known as Agbarapo, said the decision was reached during an expanded consultative meeting held Monday night at Makinde’s private residence on Kolapo Ishola Road, Ibadan.

“All aspirants into various elective offices were in attendance at the meeting,” he said.

He, however, declined to disclose the specific position the governor intends to contest.

Meanwhile, former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanbi, has emerged as the preferred governorship candidate on the APM platform.

Adekanbi, a technocrat and former member of the administration of late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, reportedly worked closely with the Makinde administration on the Ibadan urban renewal project after defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adejumobi said the endorsement of Adekanbi followed weeks of consultations among political blocs loyal to Makinde amid growing discussions about succession plans and continuity of the administration’s policies beyond 2027.

“Tomorrow’s rally will finally provide clarity on months of speculation surrounding Governor Makinde’s political ambitions,” he said.
