Makinde visits late Olubadan’s family, promises befitting burial rites

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured the family of the late 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, of his personal involvement in ensuring the monarch receives a befitting burial.

Makinde gave the assurance on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the late monarch’s private residence in the Alalubosa area of Ibadan, fifteen days after the revered traditional ruler passed away on July 7, 2025.

The governor was received by members of the royal family, including Prince Sumbo Olakulehin, Prince Osuolale Olakulehin, Princess Olutosin Olakulehin, and Prince Akinwumi Olakulehin.

Addressing the family, Governor Makinde expressed heartfelt condolences and paid tribute to the legacy and influence of the late Oba, noting that his reign symbolised peace, wisdom, and unity across Ibadanland.

He pledged that the state government would collaborate closely with the family and the Olubadan-in-Council to ensure the burial plans reflect the honour and dignity befitting the revered throne.

According to the governor, the late Olubadan’s contributions to traditional leadership and community development would be commemorated with ceremonies worthy of his status.

Makinde also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving the cultural heritage and values upheld by the late monarch during his reign.
