Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged to honour civilians and security personnel who lost their lives during efforts to secure the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The governor made the pledge on Saturday after visiting the rescued victims, who are currently receiving medical treatment in Ibadan following their release after spending 57 days in captivity.
Makinde disclosed the visit in a post on his official X account, where he assured residents that his administration would continue to support the victims until they fully recover and reunite with their families.
He said the state government would provide all the assistance required to aid the physical and emotional recovery of the rescued pupils and teachers, describing their welfare as a priority.
The governor also paid tribute to civilians and military personnel who lost their lives during the kidnapping and rescue process, saying their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
According to Makinde, his administration is determined to ensure that those who paid the ultimate price in the operation are duly honoured in recognition of their courage and service.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to grant strength and comfort to their families as they cope with their loss.
The pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026, during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area. They regained their freedom on Friday after a security operation, with the successful rescue drawing widespread commendation from Nigerians.
