A middle-aged man, Ibrahim Tanko, has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court over an alleged armed robbery in Ondo State.
The defendant appeared before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni on a one-count charge bordering on armed robbery. According to the prosecution, the alleged offence was committed on April 5, 2026, at about midnight in the Isolo area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Prosecuting counsel, Felix Baba, told the court that Tanko, while allegedly armed with a knife, robbed one Desmond Uzoejinwa Ebuka of his jewellery, an Apple wristwatch and an undisclosed sum of money.
Baba further informed the court that the alleged offence contravened Sections 1(1) and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The prosecutor urged the court to take cognisance of the charge and allow the matter to proceed in accordance with the provisions of the law.
After hearing the prosecution’s submission, Magistrate Sekoni adjourned the case until July 17, 2026, for hearing.
The court also ordered that the defendant remain in custody pending further proceedings and the determination of the case.
Tanko has not entered a plea, as armed robbery is an indictable offence that falls outside the jurisdiction of the Magistrate’s Court to try, pending legal advice and further action by the appropriate prosecuting authority.
