The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Amos Paul for allegedly using a hot pressing iron to burn the private part of his 10-year-old daughter as punishment for bedwetting.

The suspect, a resident of Unaun, Upenme, in the Owo Local Government Area of the state, was said to have inflicted the injury on the minor before the matter was reported to the police on Thursday.

It was gathered that the victim sustained severe injuries from the act and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where she is currently receiving treatment.

The police said detectives attached to the ‘A’ Division in Owo swiftly mobilised to the scene upon receiving information about the incident and arrested the suspect without delay.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesman, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Thursday, said the case had been transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further necessary action.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as cruel and inhumane.

“This act is cruel, inhumane and completely unacceptable,” Ohagwu said, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse, violence and exploitation.

He further urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse and domestic violence to the nearest police station, assuring that the command would ensure offenders were brought to justice.
