Man docked for attempted murder of police officer, arson in Ondo

A 31-year-old man named John Abah appeared before an Akure Magistrates’ Court on Monday over allegations of attempting to kill a police officer and setting a police station on fire in Ondo State.
Abah was arraigned by officers of the Ondo State Police Command on a five-count charge, including attempted murder, arson, willful damage, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
Police prosecutor, Sulaiman Adebayo, told the court that the offences took place on March 16, 2026, at around 9:00 a.m. in Ogbese, Akure.
He alleged that Abah attacked ASP Ilori Abiodun with a cutlass, inflicting injuries, before attempting to set the Ogbese division headquarters, a federal government property, ablaze.
The prosecutor further claimed that Abah had allocated a Government Reserved Area at Iloro Camp for cultivating what is suspected to be Indian hemp, an act likely to disturb public peace, contravening Sections 249(D), 320(2), 443(A), 458(1), and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
He therefore requested that the court remand Abah at a correctional facility pending further proceedings, supported by an affidavit.
In the accused’s defense, G.O. Bernard, sought an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit in response to the remand application; however, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni adjourned the case for hearing of the remand application.
