Matawalle welcomes Governor Dauda’s defection from PDP to APC

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has welcomed the defection of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

In a statement, Matawalle described the governor’s move as “cheering and long overdue,” noting that he had long expected the political alignment because of their shared aspirations for the development, stability, and prosperity of Zamfara State.

He said the decision to join the APC would strengthen cooperation between the state and the Federal Government, which is led by the party.

According to the minister, aligning Zamfara with the ruling party at the centre would open the door to a more harmonious and productive relationship that could accelerate development and improve support for key government programmes in the state.

“I warmly welcome the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, into the All Progressives Congress. His decision to join the progressive family is both cheering and long overdue. For quite some time, I have believed that this alignment would eventually happen, given the shared aspirations we hold for the development, stability, and prosperity of Zamfara State,” Matawalle said.

He added that the development was significant at a time when Zamfara continues to face serious security challenges, noting that closer collaboration between the state and the Federal Government would improve efforts to address insecurity and restore peace.

Matawalle said he looked forward to strengthening cooperation with the governor in his capacity as Minister of State for Defence to ensure improved security and stability in the state.

He also noted that the defection comes as the country approaches another electoral cycle, expressing confidence that unity within the APC would help consolidate support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu while ensuring continued leadership and development in Zamfara State.
