May D let fame ruin career – P-Square’s ex-publicist

Bayo Adetu, a journalist and former publicist for the defunct P-Square duo, has spoken about May D while refuting many of his claims.
In a recent interview, Adetu stated that May D allowed fame to affect his behavior and made decisions under questionable influences.
“After Ile Ijo became a hit, followed by Chop My Money, May D’s attitude changed toward everyone. He became arrogant and pompous. I think the fame came too suddenly and unexpectedly, so he struggled to manage the little success he had. Besides, an excess of everything is bad, so he needs to be careful about making decisions under the influence of any substance,” Adetu said.
Adetu also claimed that May D initially worked as a driver for UK rapper Alaye before meeting the P-Square duo.
“May D was Alaye’s driver. He drove him around Lagos whenever he visited from the UK. Alaye, the UK-based rapper, featured in the Temptation (Remix). When May D had accommodation problems, Alaye introduced him to P-Square and asked if they could help. They did. He was given money for rent but later returned, saying the landlord refused to let him stay due to the type of visitors he attracted.
“P-Square then asked him to feel free to stay in their house until he found another place. This was in their rented house in Omole, before they built Square Ville. May D spent most of his time in the studio with J Martins, so he never actually lived with P-Square. He occasionally stayed in their house whenever he felt like it, often for extended periods, especially after fights with his first baby mama.”
Adetu further revealed that it was in late 2010, when Rudeboy featured May D’s vocals on the song She’s Hot featuring Naeto C, that they recognized his talent and considered signing him.
“Meanwhile, their childhood friend, Melvin, was originally next in line to be signed. Melvin, Michael, Peter, and Paul were the young boys from St. Murumba College in Jos who formed the dancing group MMPP. Melvin was also staying at Square Ville,” Adetu concluded.
