Meet Nofisat Adekunle, PhD, triple master’s holder, daughter of Fuji artist Sefiu Alao

Nigerian Fuji music artists have, over time, found the magic wand to refine their previous ghetto-like, ruffian image to a more polished reputation, going on to build successful music careers, attaining fame, and fortune.
But now, Fuji artists are not alone in breaking boundaries; their children are also setting outstanding records.
Such is the amazing story of Nofisat Adekunle, the daughter of Abeokuta-born Fuji musician, Alhaji Sefiu Alao Adekunle, popularly known as “Omo Oko,” now “Baba Oko.”

United States-based Professor of History Saheed Aderinto, who interviewed Nofisat while filming a documentary series on Fuji music, noted that Sefiu Alao’s daughter is “the most educated child of a Fujician (dead or alive).”
According to Aderinto, Nofisat holds a doctorate in higher education from Walden University and three master’s degrees from the University of Minnesota, University of Buffalo, and Plymouth State University (all in the United States).
Beyond her academic prowess, not much is known about Dr. Nofisat Adekunle, as she appears to keep a low profile despite being the daughter of a well-known music star and her own educational attainments.

However, she’s said to currently work as a Senior Product Manager at Halliburton and flies first class.
Dr. Nofisat’s story reflects how Fuji musicians, once seen as low-class, uneducated, weed-smoking gangsters, are changing public perception about themselves and their craft, impacting their children to aspire to the highest educational achievements.
