Mining sector attracts $2.6bn investment — Shettima

The mining sector in Nigeria has attracted over $2.6 billion in foreign direct investment within the last 30 months, according to Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja during the commissioning of the Kursi Group Headquarters, Shettima said ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu are beginning to yield measurable results.

He noted that the administration has focused on de-risking the mining sector while making local value addition a central requirement for licensing.

According to him, Nigeria is shifting away from exporting raw materials and positioning itself as a hub for mineral processing and industrial growth.

“We are becoming a global hub for mineral refinement, beneficiation, and value-driven industrial growth,” the Vice President said.

Highlighting the broader economic vision, Shettima added: “Every nation that rises does so by mastering the value chain of its natural advantage. Every nation that commands respect in the world economy learns to convert resources into products, products into industries, and industries into national power.”

He also pointed to the role of private sector players like Kursi Group in supporting this transformation, particularly in lithium processing and gold refining within Nigeria.

Following the commissioning, the Vice President toured the facility alongside AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other dignitaries. The site includes a refining factory and a minerals marketing and tracking platform.
