Minister of Power urges Siemens to fast track equipment delivery on Presidential Power Initiative

Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu has called on Siemens Energy to fast track the delivery of the mobile substations and transformers which were ordered in December 2021.

The minister said this when he met with President/CEO, Dr Christian Bruch at the Siemens Energy Headquarters in Berlin on Friday.

The meeting was held on the sideline of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue.

At the meeting, the progress of the Presidential Power Initiative was reviewed.

The minister equally requested that commercial discussions and negotiations for the Phase 1 brownfield projects should be firmed up as quickly as possible.

Aliyu reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari on the implementation of the PPI and sought the intervention of Siemens AG management to close out outstanding topics on the commercial negotiations for Phase 1 for the distribution systems.

The minister and his delegation also visited the Siemens Energy Gas Turbine factory, Switchgear factory, GIS factory, and Siemens AG electrical automation factory, all in Berlin.

At the Siemens AG factory, the minister met with the CEO, Electrification and Atuomation, Siemens AG, Mr Stephen May, and CEO Siemens AG, Mrs Sabine Dall’Omo.

Responding, Dr Christian Bruch explained the current global challenges in original equipment manufacturing due to supply chain disruptions in key raw materials used in the manufacturing of power equipment.

He however promised to engage the Siemens Energy team and ensure the best possible delivery milestones for the equipment to improve the quality of electricity supply to Nigerians.

On the minister’s delegation were, CEO FGN Power Co, Mr. Kenny Anuwe; CTO FGN Power Co, Mr. Idowu Oyebanjo, and Head of PMO for the PPI, Mr. Mustapha Shehu.

On the Siemens Energy side were Head of Africa, Siemens Energy, Mrs. Nadja Haakanson; Head of Business Development, Siemens Energy Nigeria, Mr. Oladayo Orolu, Project Director, Siemens Energy, Mr. Sean Manley and Director, Government Affairs, Siemens Energy, Mr. Jan-Benjamin Spitzley.
