An angry mob reportedly set a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus ablaze after a collision involving a commercial motorcyclist at Ogolonto Bus Stop in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Friday.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the BRT bus collided with a motorcyclist travelling along the road. The bus allegedly struck the rider while operating on the designated BRT lane.
Following the collision, an angry crowd reportedly descended on the bus driver, whom they blamed for the incident. The situation escalated as some members of the crowd attacked the driver before setting the bus on fire.
However, police officers and officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) reportedly intervened to rescue the driver from the mob. Their intervention helped remove him from the immediate danger posed by the angry crowd.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) confirmed that a collision had occurred and that the bus was burnt in retaliation. However, the spokesperson said the authority could not confirm whether the motorcyclist had died.
