Momodu condemns alleged bullying of Atiku, recalls Obi’s 2019 VP ticket

Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has criticised what he described as the “bullying” of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, recalling that Peter Obi once served as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election.

Momodu made the remarks in a post on his X handle on Monday, expressing concern over what he sees as increasing attacks on Atiku from political opponents and supporters of other camps.

He said it was “extremely sad” that Atiku, who once gave Obi a vice-presidential ticket, was now being targeted by some of Obi’s supporters.

“It is extremely sad that a man who gave Peter Obi his first Vice Presidential ticket is being bullied in this manner,” he wrote, adding that he believed “fake Obidients and agent provocateurs” were responsible.

Speaking during an X Space session, Momodu reflected on the 2023 presidential election and Nigeria’s regional voting patterns, which he said often influence outcomes.

He questioned claims that Obi won the election, arguing that results showed strong regional concentration of votes.

“You said Obi won and they did not allow him to take power… yet you said he was rigged,” he said, noting that Obi’s votes were largely from his stronghold.

Momodu also defended Atiku’s political relevance, saying he remained a strong contender after finishing second in the last election, while urging political actors to maintain civility and avoid abusive rhetoric across party lines.
