Momodu denies vice-presidential ticket rumours, rules out contest ahead of 2027

Media entrepreneur and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed speculation linking him to a possible vice-presidential ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying he has no intention of contesting any elective position.

Momodu made the clarification on Thursday via his social media platforms, describing the circulating claim as a distraction and urging supporters to ignore it.

“I’m not running for any race again. I’m interested in humbly supporting the coalition of political parties, to work together and oust the incompetent APC government,” he said.

The Ovation magazine publisher stated that he would not be seeking any political office again, stressing that his focus is on supporting efforts to build a strong opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, his role would centre on promoting collaboration among opposition parties rather than pursuing personal political ambition.

He added that the African Democratic Congress has several capable figures who are well-qualified to contest for top positions, noting that there are more than enough leaders within the party to take on electoral responsibilities.

Momodu also criticised what he described as persistent attacks on Atiku, urging political actors to adopt a more civil tone in their engagements.

He warned against inflammatory rhetoric directed at political opponents, including President Bola Tinubu, and reiterated his commitment to supporting whoever emerges as his party’s candidate.
