Morning blaze destroys four shops at Ibadan’s Saki Garage

By Adejayan Gbenga –
No fewer than four shops were gutted by fire in the early hours of Friday at Saki Garage, opposite Trans Amusement Park, in the Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The inferno, which started around 2:07 a.m., destroyed four out of eleven shops in the vicinity. Though properties worth millions of naira were lost, no casualties were reported.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement.
He said firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.
Akinwande disclosed that investigations traced the cause of the fire to unattended lit embers left after business hours, which ignited nearby combustible materials.
He urged residents to be more conscious of fire risks, keep fire service emergency lines handy, and equip their homes and shops with fire extinguishers.
The fire service also commended Amotekun operatives from Bodija Division for providing security during the firefighting operation.
