Eguavoen Prepares to Name CHAN Eagles Squad for Ghana Clash
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has expressed optimism about the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite a challenging start in the qualifiers.
Currently, the three-time African champions sit in a tough position, ranking fifth in Group D with only three points from four matches.
Simon emphasized that the Super Eagles must secure victory in all six of their remaining qualification matches to boost their prospects of reaching the World Cup finals, set to be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
In an interview with BBC Sport Africa, the 29-year-old winger shared his confidence: “We have the quality; we have what it takes to win. We don’t believe we won’t make it to the World Cup. In the last games, we missed key regular players, and I’m confident they’ll be back next year to support the team.”
Meanwhile, Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen is preparing to name a 25-man squad for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Ghana.
After two intensive training phases in Abuja, where 70 players from the domestic league were assessed, Eguavoen is set to finalize a roster of the top talents to represent the country.
Once selected, the players will enter a closed training camp in Abuja after the Super Eagles complete their 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
The home-based Eagles are scheduled to travel to Ghana for the first leg of the CHAN qualifier, set between December 20 and December 22. The return match will follow one week later in Abuja.
