Many of life’s problems caused by taboos, not witches – Iyalorisa Elebuibon

The General Overseer of Egbe Emere Onitesiwaju Worldwide (Progressive Peers of Heaven Society), Iyalorisa Oyelola Elebuibon, has urged spiritual seekers and worshippers to stop attributing all their life problems to witches, saying personal taboos and spiritual ignorance are often the real causes of affliction.
Speaking at the 2025 annual anniversary of the society, Elebuibon stressed that many people suffer because they are unaware of the spiritual rules guiding their lives.
She said, “It’s not every misfortune that is caused by witches. Some people are simply violating their taboos because they haven’t discovered their inner selves. They don’t know the Orisa they belong to or the Egbe they are connected with, so they end up doing things that are spiritually forbidden for them. The witches also have other things to do than destroy people’s lives.”
The priestess advised people to take a balanced approach to health and well-being by combining spiritual practices with medical care.
“Taking care of our body, our mind and our spirit is paramount. These three go together. When our spirit is not well, it can show in our body, but also not all sicknesses are spiritual. That is why we must care for our bodies with wisdom.
“If you feel unwell, let us seek help from both traditional herbalists and modern hospitals. Let us eat well, live clean and rest when needed.”
Also speaking, the Araba Olu Isese of Osogboland, High Priest Ifayemi Elebuibon, emphasised the importance of identifying the spiritual nature of a child at birth to understand the appropriate care, welfare, and taboos associated with the child.
The event has members of the society from Brazil, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
