The Founder of Silverbird Group, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, has revealed that he facilitated a $200 million fund for Nigeria’s film industry during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking at a forum organized by the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), which brought together stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry, Murray-Bruce shared this anecdote while being honored with the Champion of Cinema Revival award.
He recounted that when he turned 60, President Jonathan asked him what he would like as a birthday gift. In response, he requested financial support for the film industry, noting that a lack of funding was one of its biggest challenges.
According to him, following his request, the government approved the $200 million intervention fund, designed as loans and support for industry practitioners. Murray-Bruce, however, clarified that neither he nor his business has benefited from the fund to date.
