Musawa flags off Renewed Hope Cultural Project in Katsina

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, has officially launched the Renewed Hope Cultural Project in Katsina State, marking the beginning of a national initiative aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s cultural heritage and boosting the creative economy.

The project, which will be replicated across all 36 states, seeks to showcase Nigeria’s cultural diversity and harness local tourism potentials. A key component of the initiative is the creation of Renewed Hope Cultural Villages featuring Creative and Art Studios, Arts and Crafts Markets, and Exhibition Centres tailored to reflect each state’s unique heritage.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the historic Ƙofa Ukkur Gate in Katsina, Minister Musawa underscored the importance of the initiative in preserving the nation’s history and stimulating economic growth. “This will drive local tourism, boost the economy, increase GDP contributions, and create job opportunities for millions nationwide,” she said.

The Minister lauded the Katsina State Government for preserving key historical landmarks such as the Gobarau Minaret, Radar Daurama, Kusugu Well, and Durbi Takusheyi. She said the project would also include renovations of heritage sites and capacity-building for local artisans, especially youth in rural communities.

During her visit, Musawa also paid homage to the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk, CON, delivering a goodwill message from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She reiterated the President’s commitment to delivering grassroots-oriented development across the country through people-centered initiatives.

In his response, the Emir expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Musawa, describing her as a “round peg in a round hole.” He praised the cultural initiative and pledged the full support of the Daura Emirate for its successful implementation.

Also speaking, Hon. Abiola Abdulkareem, the Minister’s Special Assistant on Subnational Development and Project Coordinator, stressed the inclusive nature of the project. He said it would empower creatives at the grassroots and ensure the government’s presence is felt through direct support for local craftsmanship.

The Minister concluded her visit with a tour of significant cultural sites including Fadar Daurama, Kusugu Well, and the historic Teachers Training College Museum, assuring that the Federal Government will work with the state to preserve these heritage landmarks.
