Musawa headlines AMAA’s 20th anniversary celebration

The African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) celebrated two decades of African cinema in a grand ceremony at Balmoral Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Lagos.
The 20th-anniversary event brought together leading movie stars and filmmakers from across Africa and the Diaspora, reaffirming the AMAA’s status as a premier platform for African storytelling.
As the Special Guest of Honour, Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, delivered a speech that highlighted her commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s creative sector.
Speaking passionately, Musawa emphasized her dedication to aligning the sector with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transforming it into a significant contributor to the Nigerian economy.
Musawa shared her reflections on the event, saying, “Celebrating 20 years of African cinema! The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Lagos showcased the power of African storytelling to inspire and unite us all.”
During the evening, she had the honor of presenting the award for Best Film alongside Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB). In her address, Musawa extended her congratulations to all the award recipients and industry professionals, lauding their contributions to elevating African narratives on the global stage.
“Congratulations to all the winners and actors whose contributions continue to elevate our industry and bring African stories to the world. Here’s to many more years of unforgettable stories,” Musawa wrote.
