My philanthropy not driven by governorship ambition – Oyo PDP’s Adegoke

By Adejayan Gbenga –

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Chief Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke (FCA), the Aare-Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, has dismissed claims that his philanthropic activities are tied to his governorship ambition.

Adegoke, who has declared his intention to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in 2027, made the clarification while speaking on a radio programme, “Tiwa ni Oselu” on Lagelu FM, Ibadan.

He stressed that his charitable works began long before his involvement in politics, adding that his desire to serve as governor is simply an opportunity to contribute more to the development of Oyo State.

“Don’t believe the claim that my philanthropy is because of my governorship ambition. I have been helping widows every year, instituted awards for the best students in Faculties of Agriculture and Science at LAUTECH, and built classrooms for a school in Iseyin,” he said.

Adegoke added, “I donated N20 million to the Faculty of Agriculture at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, which is even outside Oyo State. If my philanthropy was politically motivated, I wouldn’t do that. Helping people is my calling, and I will continue whether or not I’m governor.”

He concluded that becoming governor would only give him a bigger platform to extend his charitable efforts to more residents of the state.
