Mystery shrouds discovery of lifeless body in Ilorin community

Residents of Agunbiade Parakoyi Street in the Sawmill area of Ilorin were thrown into shock on Tuesday morning following the discovery of the body of an unidentified middle-aged man lying by the roadside.
The corpse, first noticed by worshippers heading out for early morning prayers around 5 a.m., drew a large crowd of residents and passersby. Eyewitnesses told reporters that no one in the neighborhood could recognize the deceased, raising questions about his identity and the cause of death.
Alhaji Abdulwahab Bello-Opeloyeru, Chairman of the Ifesowapo Community, said the neighborhood had been rattled hours earlier by a loud scream at about 3:39 a.m., but residents were too cautious to come out due to prevailing security concerns.

“It was only when people stepped out for prayers that they saw the body,” Bello-Opeloyeru explained, adding that there was speculation the man might have been returning from a nearby hotel before the incident occurred.
Police operatives from B Division, Surulere, later arrived at the scene to evacuate the body. Attempts to reach the state police spokesperson, Ejire Adetoun, for confirmation and further details were unsuccessful as calls to her line were not answered.
The development comes barely a day after the Ifesowapo Community, under Bello-Opeloyeru’s leadership, reiterated its opposition to the proliferation of hotels and drinking joints in the area, citing security and social concerns.
For now, the mystery surrounding the man’s identity and the circumstances of his death remains unresolved, leaving residents anxious and demanding swift police investigation.
