N-power fraud: ICPC releases Dbanj from detention

Nigerian musician Dapo Oyebanji popularly known as Dbanj has been released from detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

He was released on Friday afternoon, three days after his arrest by operatives of the Commission.

D’Banj was arrested on Tuesday night after he was alleged to have colluded with some government officials to fraudulently divert funds by introducing ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of an empowerment scheme set up by the Federal Government called N-Power.

The singer’s lawyer Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi while addressing reporters stated that the D’banj was released on his own recognition and had fully cooperated with the ICPC. He maintained that his client was innocent.

The N-Power was set up on 8th June, 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari, to address the issues of youth unemployment and empowerment, and help increase social development.

The categories under the N-Power scheme include N-agro (agriculture), N-Health, N-Teach, N-Build, N-Creative, N-Tech and N-Knowledge
