N15bn committed to federal road project in support of Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda, says Oyebanji
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has stated that his administration’s intervention in federal road projects is aimed at alleviating transportation challenges for residents and supporting President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure development agenda.
Governor Oyebanji made the statement on Saturday while inspecting ongoing road and medical complex projects in the state. He highlighted that the reconstruction of the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki road, a major federal route, will cost the state over N15 billion.
Despite the road being under federal jurisdiction, Oyebanji emphasized that it is primarily used by Ekiti residents, prompting the state government to step in to ensure easier access to different parts of the state.
“The road is critical to Ekiti’s economy and social life, connecting towns and facilitating the movement of goods and services within and outside the state, while also serving as a key link to northern Nigeria,” the governor said, noting that the poor condition of the road has been a major concern for his administration.
Governor Oyebanji underscored his government’s commitment to focusing on infrastructure that will have a significant economic impact, particularly roads that connect communities and boost trade. He expressed hope that the federal government would compensate the state after the project’s completion, which would encourage further work on federal roads to enhance economic development.
In addition to road projects, the governor also visited the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, where ongoing construction is set to upgrade the medical facility, ensuring that Ekiti residents have access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
Governor Oyebanji praised the progress of both projects, stressing that they reflect his administration’s dedication to continuity and development, as the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki road project was initiated by his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
“The road, though a federal project, is primarily used by Ekiti people. It is one of the major routes to the North, and its poor state has been a concern. This project, which will cost us N15 billion, is possible due to strong support from the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It’s our modest contribution to complement Mr. President’s infrastructural efforts, and we hope for federal compensation after its completion,” Oyebanji said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the road as quickly as possible to benefit the people of Ekiti.
