NAFDAC seizes N200 million worth items from illicit alcohol factory

Acting on intelligence tips, the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) enforcement officers have uncovered an illegal facility, producing various alcoholic beverages in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
Following extensive monitoring, the officers found that a number of the packing stores and rooms in the Oke-Arin market had been transformed into improvised factories, producing, packaging, and selling various brands of alcoholic beverages on the open market.
More than two thousand cartons of pre-packaged drinks and empty bottle cases were taken during the raid, along with a small plastic mixing tank, a makeshift filter, and a variety of packaging supplies.
Three individuals were taken into custody in relation to the illicit activity. NAFDAC estimates that the seized commodities have a street value of N200 million.
The agency is warning the public to exercise caution, particularly when buying alcoholic beverages.
The investigation is still on, and when it is done, the suspects will be prosecuted.
