NAFDAC shuts down fake beverage operation at Lagos Trade Fair Complex
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex involving the revalidation of expired alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for resale.
NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate conducted a successful raid, during which two individuals were apprehended as they removed expired labels from beverages and replaced them with falsified date markings.
The operation led to the seizure of newly printed labels, date-marking tools, and discarded expired labels. NAFDAC authorities also sealed off the premises and confiscated the affected products. The store owner, identified as the prime suspect in the illegal operation, was arrested and is currently under investigation.
Reacting to the development, the food and drug agency urged consumers to be vigilant, especially during the festive season, and to report any suspicious activities to their nearest NAFDAC office to help prevent the circulation of counterfeit goods.
