Naira abuse: EFCC says Tompolo has questions to answer

By Kunle Sanni

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, will be invited for questioning over the alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency, the naira.

In a post on its X account on Friday, the EFCC said, “Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer.”

The Commission is intensifying efforts to enforce the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, which criminalizes the abuse of the naira, including spraying and mutilation during public events.

In the past, the Commission has invited and arrested several prominent individuals in connection with incidents of naira abuse.
