Nana Shettima offers second chance to girls in Lagos with first alternative school

First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has offered girls whose education was disrupted by social, economic or personal circumstances a second chance to return to school with the commissioning of the country’s first Alternative Secondary School for Girls in Lagos.
Tinubu, who was represented by the wife of the Vice-President, Nana Shettima, commissioned the school on Friday at its premises on Old Ojo Road, Agboju, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

The initiative is designed to provide girls who have dropped out of school with an alternative pathway to complete their secondary education, acquire vocational and relevant life skills, and prepare for further education and economic opportunities.
In her address, Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to expanding educational opportunities for Nigerian girls and commended the Lagos State Government for complementing federal efforts in the sector.
She suggested that at least one alternative secondary school for girls should be established in each senatorial district across the country.
“You can achieve what you want with dedication and resilience,” she told the beneficiaries, urging them to see the institution as an opportunity to rebuild their dreams and acquire the knowledge and confidence needed to become productive citizens.
The First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said the initiative demonstrated that no girl should be permanently excluded from education because of circumstances that interrupted her schooling.
“Every girl deserves a second chance,” she said, describing the institution as a platform for restoring dignity and hope to girls who had given up on returning to school.
