NANS, NAKSS applaud Kwara Governor’s commitment to education

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq received widespread commendation from students on Monday for his significant investments in the education sector and student welfare.

The students, under the banners of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), gathered at the Government House to express their gratitude for the administration’s impactful policies, including the prompt payment of bursaries and support extended to students, especially following the removal of fuel subsidies.

Speaking on behalf of NANS, President Comrade Issa Abdulgafar Arikewuyo described Governor AbdulRazaq as a democratic leader committed to educational development.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. We are here en masse today to show the world that the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum is a student-friendly leader,” Arikewuyo said. “We have an action Governor in AbdulRazaq, who has uplifted the value of students in society.”

He praised the Governor for key interventions, such as the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education, the provision of solar lighting systems at Kwara State University, Malete, and the delivery of 250 ICT infrastructure units to students of the College of Aviation, Ilorin.

NAKSS President Comrade Abdulwahab Habibullahi also highlighted the administration’s achievements, including scholarships for law students, the provision of buses for student union leadership, and free bus rides for students.

“Today is a remarkable day for students in Kwara State. We are here to appreciate His Excellency for his unwavering support and commitment to student welfare,” Habibullahi said.

In his remarks, Governor AbdulRazaq thanked the students for their visit and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to empowering them.

“I must commend your leadership for engaging with the government productively. It has brought many positive responses, and we will continue to support your activities for the betterment of student bodies,” the Governor said.

“On our part, we will ensure that students are accommodated in our empowerment programmes. Do not hesitate to propose initiatives to us.”

The Governor also lauded his Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Wasiu Onidugbe, for his proactive role in promoting student welfare and fostering unity.

Onidugbe noted that the visit was part of activities marking the Annual Unity and Harmony Week, designed to encourage oneness among students.

“This special visit celebrates and appreciates the Governor for his significant contributions to student welfare and the education sector,” Onidugbe said.

The Governor received the delegation alongside members of his cabinet, including Chief of Staff Prince AbdulKadir Mahe, underscoring his administration’s commitment to fostering a collaborative relationship with students across the state.
