Nasarawa 2027: Governor Sule pledges fairness in APC governorship primary

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Monday reiterated his commitment to fairness ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary for the 2027 election, even as he held a valedictory meeting with the outgoing State Working Committee at the Government House in Lafia.
Governor Sule assured party executives, led by State Chairman Dr. Aliyu Bello, that his understanding of fairness would guide all decisions leading to the emergence of the party’s flagbearer. He stressed that while he has a preferred zone, he is willing to accept whatever outcome God determines.
“I want to be fair, I want to be fair, I want to be fair based on my understanding of fairness. We will support a zone that I think is fair to support that zone. Anyone who does not like it is his own business. But if God decides otherwise, I will accept it—Alhamdulillah,” the governor said.
The governor used the session to thank the outgoing state exco for their service and brief them on the upcoming state congress. He explained that the principles applied during the ward and local government congresses—consensus building and rotation of positions—would also guide the state-level elections.
He added that members who have served eight years may have to step aside, although they could still contribute in other capacities if stakeholders deem it appropriate.
“We have had successful ward and local government congresses, and I want to thank you all for your efforts. Now, we are going into the state congress,” he said.
On the preparations for the 2027 governorship election, Governor Sule emphasised that he harbours no enmity toward any of the party’s aspirants. “I don’t have a single enemy among the aspirants. Every aspirant, if God wills, will become our candidate. Once we have one of our aspirants as a candidate, I owe it to myself to work for that candidate,” he stated.
Dr. Aliyu Bello, in response, thanked Governor Sule for his humility and support during the tenure of the outgoing exco. “Your Excellency, on behalf of all 36 of us, we appreciate what you have done. From the time you came in, we didn’t know our allowances. Now we know what we are collecting and the support we’ve received from you,” Bello said.
