NAUS demands transparency in NELFUND disbursement in Osun

The Chairman of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Adeleke Samson, has called on Vice-Chancellors and Provosts of tertiary institutions in the state to provide a full account of how the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is being disbursed and managed.
Speaking at a press conference at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Osogbo on Friday, Samson emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the use of the funds, which are meant to support students’ educational pursuits.
He expressed concern that many students still face severe financial hardship despite the federal government’s initiative, raising questions about how the funds are being handled at the institutional level.
His words: “One of the critical issues affecting our student community is the lack of transparency and accountability in the management of NELFUND disbursements. We demand that Vice-Chancellors and Provosts of tertiary institutions in Osun State provide a detailed account of NELFUND disbursements and expenditures. Transparency and accountability are essential in managing these funds, and we will ensure that students receive the benefits they are entitled to.
“As NAUS Chairman, I urge all Vice-Chancellors and Provosts to take immediate action to address this issue. We need to know how these funds are being utilized and what impact they are having on our students. We believe that transparency and accountability are essential for building trust and confidence in the management of NELFUND disbursements.”
Samson criticized the Osun State Government for what he described as its failure to prioritize student issues.
According to him, “We are disappointed that the present government has not been active in addressing students’ matters. They have failed to prioritize the needs and concerns of our students, and we urge them to take immediate action to address these issues.”
He also condemned all forms of cult activities and urged the management of the various institutions in the state to provide maximum security support to the student community.
