NBTE phases out HND Computer Science from Polytechnics, notifies NYSC

The National Board for Technical Education recently announced its decision to gradually phase out Higher National Diploma (HND) Computer Science programmes in public Polytechnics and monotechnics across Nigeria.
As a result, the HND Computer Science Programme will no longer accept new admissions starting from the 2024/25 academic session, the Board has said.
The Board also said the grace period issued is to enable concerned institutions to graduate students who were admitted under the old curricula.
The announcement was made in a letter signed by the Board’s Executive Secretary, Idris Bugaje, on Monday.
According to the letter, titled “Unbounding of ND Computer Science Programme” NBTE stated that it has cancelled four specialised courses to be taught in government-funded learning institutions under the computer science programme: HND Artificial Intelligence; HND Networking and Cloud Computing; HND Software and Web Development; and HND Cybersecurity and Data Protection.
The letter reads, “In view of the above, you are requested to Kindly note that admissions from the 2024/2025 academic session into the erstwhile ND Computer Science programme will be only in the aforementioned four specialized arcas.
“While hoping that this information will be treated accordingly and given wide circulation through your good office, please accept the assurance of my highest regards and consideration.”
