NDLEA equips counselors with modern clinical skills

…moves to strengthen drug rehabilitation care

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has begun nationwide training for more than 100 counselors to standardise practices and strengthen clinical skills in line with global best practices.

Coordinated by the Directorate of Counseling, Treatment and Rehabilitation, the programme began at the NDLEA Academy in Jos, Plateau State. It is the Agency’s first major counselor capacity-building initiative in several years.

Speaking at the opening of Phase One, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), represented by ACGN Bashir Ibrahim, said the training would boost staff morale and equip counselors with modern tools to address substance use disorders.

Marwa said the programme would harmonise counseling protocols, improve care for emerging drug-related and mental health conditions, strengthen ethics and data management, and align rehabilitation services with national and international standards.

He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to developing a skilled counseling workforce and improving the quality of care across its rehabilitation facilities.
