NDLEA officer killed in Ondo, four arrested
By Boye Oyeyemi –
A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operative, identified simply as Jide, was shot on Tuesday during a drug raid in the Ita’nla area of Ondo town, Ondo State.
According to reports, the NDLEA team had launched an operation at a residential building based on intelligence suggesting that illegal substances were concealed in the ceiling.
While some officers entered the premises to conduct the search, Jide, who was stationed outside for surveillance, was ambushed by gunmen believed to be linked to the drug network.
The attackers reportedly opened fire and struck the officer in the neck. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and said police immediately deployed additional personnel to secure the area after the shooting.
According to Ayanlade, four individuals suspected to be involved in the attack were taken into custody. A single-barrel firearm was also recovered during the operation.
He added that the state police command is working closely with the NDLEA to uncover the full details of the incident and ensure all those responsible are brought to justice.
“Our investigation is ongoing, and we are determined to ensure that every person linked to this gruesome act faces the full weight of the law,” Ayanlade stated.
