Ndume threatens to dump APC over Tinubu’s performance

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has hinted that he may leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu fails to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Ndume revealed that he has participated in several meetings with opposition leaders who are forming a coalition to unseat Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

The senator said he remains hopeful that the president can steer the country back on track but warned that continued failure may force him to jump ship.

“I am aware of the opposition coalition and have attended some of their meetings. I still believe the president can fix things, but if he fails, I may have to move. An overloaded ship will sink,” Ndume stated.

He expressed concerns about recent defections into the APC, suggesting that most were driven by political survival tactics rather than genuine commitment to the party’s ideals.

“They are joining not because of principles but because of indirect stick-and-carrot politics, and that is dangerous,” he said.

Ndume warned that if the APC continues on its current trajectory, it risks collapse, regardless of who joins the party. “As the president said, there’s vacancy in the ship, but if you overload it, the ship will capsize, and everyone will go down with it,” he added.

The senator reiterated that while he still has faith in Tinubu’s leadership potential, his continued allegiance to the APC depends on whether the president can deliver on his promises to Nigerians.
