NEMA distributes relief materials to flood victims in Rivers
The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA has distributed relief materials to flood victims at Akinnima Ahoada West local government area of Rivers state as promised.
NEMA’s South-South Zonal Coordinator Adebiyi Babatunde, while handing over the food items and non-food items to the State Government, said the federal government was committed to ameliorating the suffering of the victims in this challenging period.
The flood disaster in the Local Government Area had left a trail of destruction, with farmlands and properties destroyed forcing locals to harvest their crops prematurely.
The situation rendered over one thousand people homeless as many sought refuge at internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Akinima.
The state Commissioner for Special Duties, Bariere Thomas who received the items on behalf of the state government, praised federal government’s swift intervention.
