The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, has pledged that the command will prioritise the protection of lives and property across the state.
CP Abimbola made the pledge on Friday as he officially assumed duty at the Oyo State Police Command headquarters in Eleyele.
He was received by senior officers upon arrival, after which a guard of honour was mounted before the formal handover ceremony with his predecessor, Femi Haruna, the new assistant inspector general of police.
During his maiden meeting with officers, the commissioner outlined his vision to build a people-centred, professional and accountable police force that residents can trust, in line with the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
Abimbola further warned that misconduct such as extortion, corruption, incivility towards members of the public and violations of human rights would not be tolerated under his leadership.
Addressing residents of Oyo, he assured that the command would strengthen collaboration with communities to tackle crimes such as kidnapping, banditry and other security threats.
The commissioner equally pledged to lead by example and improve operational efficiency to enhance public confidence in policing.
Another highlight of the event featured the decoration of Bolaji Lawal, formerly the divisional police officer of Bodija, following her promotion to assistant commissioner of police.
