New defence minister Christopher Musa outlines top security priorities

By Kunle Sanni –

Newly sworn-in Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has outlined his immediate priorities, emphasising renewed synergy among the armed forces, security agencies, and citizens in the effort to secure the nation.

Speaking on Thursday with State House correspondents after his swearing-in, Musa said his focus is to strengthen coordination within the security architecture and ensure that Nigerians are fully involved, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.

“My immediate priority is to make sure that defence takes its place fully in the country,” he said.

“The synergy between the armed forces, between the armed forces and other security agencies, and all Nigerians being carried along — as we have always said, security is everybody’s responsibility.”

Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, acknowledged the enormous expectations placed on him as he returns to a familiar national security terrain.

He assured Nigerians that concrete results would follow soon.

“It is that synergy that we need to build on, and that’s what we’re going to do. I can assure you, within the shortest possible time, Nigerians will see results,” he stated.

“Nigerians have shown me love, and I guarantee them that I will work — whatever it takes — to ensure that Nigeria is secured.”
